The Academy launches campaign to educate the public about the value of nursing science
Today, the American Academy of Nursing (Academy) launches a new effort to build a bold and comprehensive campaign to educate the public and policymakers about the value of nursing science. The SAVE - Science Adds Value for Everyone - campaign will engage Academy Fellows, members of the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS), and other valued partners who are invested in championing the voice of nursing research. Together, we will work to ensure the scientific enterprise remains strong.
Over the coming months, critical decisions will be made by federal policymakers that will impact funding levels, the generation of knowledge, and the core structure of revered research institutions, including the National Institute for Nursing Research. It is imperative that the Academy works together with our members, community and coalition partners, and policymakers to raise awareness that Science Adds Value for Everyone.
In the coming months, the Academy aims to do the following in support of nursing science:
- Host a convening to educate policymakers about the impact of nursing science on communities across the nation, and how funding for nursing science is critical;
- Provide Academy and CANS members with a webinar series on effectively communicating their science and amplifying the larger scientific community’s efforts;
- Magnify the work of nurse scientists by collecting testimonials to be shared with policymakers and the public; and
- Expand partnerships with the research and patient advocate community by joining in strategic alliances and coalitions.
We Need Your Help!
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are asking for your support to help the Academy achieve these efforts through a donation to the SAVE campaign.
The Board has been listening to you through multiple channels, and our science is consistently mentioned. In fact, the pulse survey issued to the Fellowship earlier this year revealed that members feel protecting science and research should be the Academy’s top priority. The Board of Directors and the Academy’s senior leadership staff have already donated $10,000 to ignite the important work of the SAVE campaign. Will you help us reach and even exceed a collective goal of $50,000?
On behalf of the Board, we thank you for your consideration. We must save science because science adds value for everyone.
Sincerely,
Linda D. Scott, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FADLN, FNAP, FAAN
