The Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Affairs (CCA), is an exceptional faculty leader and serves as a senior administrator overseeing CU Nursing’s faculty practice enterprise and is responsible for strategic development, provider support, compliance, practice, and clinical site operations. The Associate Dean of CCA is also responsible for ensuring that the practice activities are conducted efficiently and ethically, consistent with the rules and regulations of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the CU College of Nursing. This position will also supervise other faculty and staff as needed within the clinical enterprise structure. 

The ideal candidate would be qualified to hold a faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in either the Clinical Practice Faculty Track or in a Tenure Eligible Faculty Position with time dedicated to the Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Affairs administrative faculty appointment. 

The Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Affairs reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and works collaboratively with other leaders in the college, as well as faculty and staff. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Articulates a compelling, inclusive vision for the future of practice within the CU College of Nursing’s strategic vision. Provides strategic leadership in developing and refining the College’s practice mission and activities. 
  • Provides leadership in defining levels of excellence in nursing practice within the CU College of Nursing.
  • Provides leadership in designing systems of evaluation that ascertain whether levels of excellence are being met within the practice enterprise. 
  • Provides leadership in designing, implementing, and evaluating clinical practice models. 
  • Facilitates interprofessional and collaborative practice efforts.  
  • Reviews relevant campus, federal, and state fiscal policies and procedures related to clinical affairs. 
  • Provides leadership in developing specific College of Nursing policies and procedures within the clinical practice enterprise that tie into relevant college, campus, and university policies and procedures. 
  • Directs that the CU Nursing Office of Clinical and Community Affairs operations are consistent with College, Campus, and University policies and procedures. 
  • Designs, in collaboration with faculty, staff, and clinical agencies, a variety of practice opportunities that allow the College to meet its stated goals for community service and faculty practice. 
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs that reflect current practice trends to meet the needs for service, clinical practice, and communities and stem from the philosophy and goals of the College of Nursing, the Anschutz Medical Campus, and the general University. 
  • Provides oversight to provider support functions such as CCA onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, and peer review. 
  • Provides oversight to compliance and safety functions for faculty practice within the CU College of Nursing. 
  • Collaborates with the Office of University Counsel and CU Nursing Dean’s Office in development of professional service agreements and MOUs. 
  • Establishes and manages positive relationships with various internal and external constituents and appropriately represents the College of Nursing. 
  • Creates a system of accountability through the definition and reporting of quality metrics and productivity standards for CU Nursing practice faculty. 
  • In collaboration with the CU Nursing Finance Team, ensures financial feasibility of ongoing practices and clinics, ensures timely reporting of financial status across clinical enterprise to the Dean and other required entities, addresses financial/budget concerns proactively, supports future financial needs by ensure adequate reserves for both unexpected financial needs and to support possible future expansion projects. 
  • Provides leadership in identifying and developing appropriate external funding to support the practice missions of the College. 
  • Works with CU Nursing Office of Research and Scholarship to submit grants and funding requests to external agencies to expand practice initiatives. 
  • Provides oversight of the faculty practice enterprise, including Sheridan Health Services, a multi-site, nurse-led, interprofessional federally qualified health center, two midwifery practices (University Nurse-Midwives and the Center for Midwifery), a primary care clinic on AMC (Community Health Clinic) as well as other clinical practice sites. 
  • Provides oversight of clinical activities emphasizing efficiency, productivity, and accountability. 
  • Provides leadership and supervision to clinical directors to ensure consistency in scope of practice, practice guidelines, and patient care quality. 
  • Encourage a culture of belonging, grounding learning in mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, diversity and ethics, as well as personal and professional development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor of Clinical Practice, Professor of Clinical Practice, Associate Professor (tenure eligible), or Professor (tenure eligible) based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:  

 

Associate Dean/Associate Professor of Clinical Practice: 

  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado. 
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, business, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e., as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions). 
  • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience. 
  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in practice, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor in the Clinical Practice faculty track. 

 

Associate Dean/Professor of Clinical Practice: 

  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.  
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, business, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e., as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions). 
  • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience. 
  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in practice, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Professor in the Clinical Practice faculty track. 

 

Associate Dean/Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible): 

  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.  
  • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, business, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e., as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions). 
  • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience. 
  • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor in a tenure eligible position. 
  • Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor include an extensive and continuing body of research published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. 
  • Evidence of focused area of research. 
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students, ideally including students with diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Experience in securing funding via grants and contracts, as evidenced by past achievements. This could include pilot funding, intramural funding, or similar. 

 

Associate Dean/Professor (Tenure Eligible): 

  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.  
  • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, business, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e., as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions). 
  • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience. 
  • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Professor in a tenure-eligible position. 
  • Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor include a proven track record of extramural funding, substantial scholarship in peer reviewed journals, national recognition for program of research, and leadership in professional organizations. 
  • Evidence of focused area of research. 
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students, ideally including students with diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Experience in securing funding via grants and contracts, as evidenced by past achievements. This could include pilot funding, intramural funding, or similar. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Five years’ experience working as an APRN and/or as an RN directly supporting APRNs in their practice model 
  • Experience managing a clinical site and/or practice, ideally nurse-led, including financial and supervisory experience,  
  • Clinical practice development experience. 
  • Experience coordinating grant-funded projects.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

  • Associate Professor of Clinical Practice: $110,000 to $130,000 annually at 1.0 FTE
  • Professor of Clinical Practice: $125,000 to $155,000 annually at 1.0 FTE
  • Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible): $115,000 to $135,000 annually at 1.0 FTE
  • Professor (Tenure Eligible): $130,000 to $160,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
