Description

The position requires a dynamic and visionary leader with a strong background in nursing education, simulation technology, administrative expertise, and simulation accreditation standards and best practices.

The primary functions of this position are:
  • The Director of IPE-SC plays a critical leadership role in oversight, management, reviews, development, and effectiveness of the day-to-day operations, strategic planning, and educational initiatives of the IPE-SC. 
  • Develops, maintains, and evaluates a systematic master evaluation plan of nursing/healthcare education for the IPE-SC.
  • Safeguards the health and safety of students associated with educational activities through the implementation of published policies and procedures that are in compliance with the healthcare simulation accrediting bodies, as well as those with regard to workplace hazards, harassment, communicable diseases, and substance abuse.
  • Develops and implements a system of planning and evaluation to determine program effectiveness and uses that data drive program improvement. 
  • Serve as a mentor/facilitator for faculty, staff, and students.

Examples of Duties

Strategic Leadership: 
·         Work with administration to develop and implement the overall strategic vision and mission for the simulation center in alignment with the GCSC goals, vision, and mission.
·         Collaborate with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, educators, and administrators to ensure the IPE-SC meets the evolving education needs of students and the healthcare community the college serves.
·         Foster and maintain partnerships with healthcare institutions, industry partners, and educational organizations to enhance the center’s offerings and resources.
·         Author grant funding proposals to enable simulation center growth and expansion as needed.
 
Educational Program Development: 
·         Collaborate with educators and subject matter experts to design and implement inter-professional simulation-based training programs that enhance clinical skills, critical thinking, and teamwork among healthcare professionals.
·         Maintain currency on trends and advancements in healthcare simulation training technology and integrate these methods into simulation educational training programs and accreditation standards for IPE-SC.
·         Creates curriculum and academic practices which promote the synthesis of theory, use of current technology, competent clinical practice, and professional values.
·         Assists in implementation of the college Course Management System and other technology designed to improve the administration process for nursing students.
·         Oversight of simulation education activities and program offerings with instructional role as needed.  
 
Operational Management: 
·         Oversee implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the IPE-SC.
·         Supervises faculty, administrative staff, and personnel working in the Simulation Center.
·         Manage budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation to optimize the utilization of budgeted funds.
·         Maintains communication with Division Chair regarding activities and management of Simulation Center program.
  • Attends scheduled Nursing division, coordinators’, advisory board and faculty meetings.
·         Maintain formal communications with clinical agencies, community groups and other nursing and health science programs.
  • Schedules and attends clinical agency staff / faculty planning meetings as needed.
·         Prepares faculty instructional assignments each term according to criteria in Manual of Policy; prepares over-load forms for adjunct faculty.
·         Orients new adjunct and full-time faculty to the IPE-SC.
·         Prepares department reports annually, such as annual report for division, etc.
·         Assist with recruitment activities.
  • Assists with development of IPE-SC informational brochures and other materials as indicated.
  • Attends and/or speaks at recruitment functions, i.e., career days, high schools and community activities, etc.
·         Schedules and presides at bi-monthly IPE-SC department meetings.
·         Reviews and revises IPE-SC faculty and staff job descriptions annually.

Quality Assurance and Accreditation: 
·         Ensure compliance with industry and accreditation educational standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in healthcare simulation to acquire and maintain accreditation for the IPE-SC.
·         Establish and monitor quality assurance measures to continually enhance the effectiveness and impact of simulation-based education.
·         Prepares annual report for the IPE-SC accrediting body.
·         Serves as representative to regional, state and national boards if applicable.
 
Staff Development and Team Management: 
·         Recruit, train, and manage a diverse team of simulation educators, technicians, and administrative staff.
·         Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance the quality and capabilities of the IPE-SC team.
·         Identify and implement innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance the capabilities of the IPE-SC.

·         There are no “faculty practice” privileges granted within the GCSC Nursing Program.  Employees may not utilize the GCSC Nursing/Health Science Labs or any Nursing program facilities for personal use/gain or to provide Nursing services to patients who are not scheduled in an assigned Nursing Program course.
·         Other duties as assigned by the Division Chair of Nursing or GCSC Administration. 

Typical Qualifications

·         Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctorate degree preferred in Nursing or Nursing Simulation Training. 
·         Certification in healthcare simulation training by an industry recognized accrediting body preferred or 1 year to obtain following hire.
·         Minimum of 5 years full-time experience in the professional discipline and 1-2 years experience in nursing/healthcare simulation training.
·         Current Florida Registered Nursing License, including minimum of 24 continued education units every 2 years.
